Project Objectives
This assignment is part of the component of F-SURE project that complements to contribute to delivery of the project OUTCOME 2: Increased land area under integrated natural resources management (INRM) and SLM practices for a more productive Karamoja landscape.
Summary of Achievements/impact
The project was implemented in Nabilatuk and Nakapiripirit district in Nabilatuk and Moruita sub counties. The project was implemented through APFS and watershed management approaches by the established social structures such as APFS groups, community based facilitators (CBFs), watershed management Associations and sub county networks. A total of 63 APFS groups were formed and formalised with the districts’ Community Based Services (DCDO) for future linkages, partnerships and sustainability. The project trained and skilled 63 APFS groups in CSA measures, promoted watershed management practices, income generating practices, VSLA, INRM, tree planting, natural farmer managed regeneration, , minimal use of existing trees by use of energy saving stoves, and farming as business so as to contribute to increased food production for improved livelihoods. Project interventions were strengthened by knowledge and skills enhancement through trainings and support monitoring conducted by FAO and MAAIF (PMU) project teams. The project embraced a participatory approach through engaging other stakeholders in the implementation of the project including relevant local government structures both at subcounty and district levels, other existing and functional institutions in the districts of operation (South Karamoja Cooperative Society Ltd and Nabilatuk farmers’ forum).
