Project objectives

To strengthen civil society organizations’ capacities to understand and address conflicts related to land and natural resources in the Karamoja region, fostering improved conflict prevention, management, and resolution strategies. The specific objectives were a) increase community understanding of the status and implications of land and extractive mineral resource conflicts in Rupa Sub-county, Karamoja, b) build capacity of CSOs and CBOs to prevent, manage, and resolve conflicts related to land and natural resources and c) establish effective communication mechanisms that increase community access to information on minerals, mining revenues, and their distribution.


Summary of Achievements/impact

Implemented in 2013, the project has the following impact;

  • Publication of an assessment report on land and resource conflicts in Rupa Sub-county
  • Identification and documentation of conflict drivers related to land and mining activities in the region.
  • Engagement with local government and private investors to address conflicts, particularly around land demarcation and community rights.
Improved community awareness of the implications of land and mineral resources conflicts, along with recommendations for better consultation and participation.
