Project Objectives
The project sought to promote good governance in the minerals sector in Karamoja through advocating for accountability, stakeholder participation and inclusiveness for sustainable growth and development; as well as protection of human rights.
Summary of Achievements/impact
By the end of the project, 74% of policy / legal recommendations were adopted in the mining policy and Act from regional, local and national multi-stakeholder. Additionally, 42% of community representatives were aware about the legal and regulatory frameworks of the extractive industries and potential social and environmental impacts. Furthermore, 60% of the citizens reported having engaged with government representatives and 54% of citizens reported having gotten an increase in confidence in claiming their rights. The proportion of respondents directly impacted by the project and who reported to having witnessed transparency of revenues from mining industries were 10%.
