Karamoja Women in Mining & Development Project (KWIMD)

Karamoja Women in Mining Development (KWIMD) Project is a two year project funded by Bread for the World from 2014-2016. The project is targets majorly women Artisanal and Small Scale miners in the Sub-Counties of Rupa and Tapac Sub-Counties in Moroto District, Karamoja Sub-region.

Main intention is capacitating Women Artisanal Miners to engage in profitable, responsible mining and extended business activities aimed at reducing poverty.

Reaching the goal through increased incomes and socio-economic benefits for women miners from Artisanal & Small scale Mining of gold, limestone and marble in target areas; Increased number and effectiveness of Women ASM organizations; Transfer skills and know-how to women artisanal miners in support of better performing and safer operations, environmentally responsible and appropriate mining practices.; Reduced environmental degradation and number of occupational accidents and injuries among the women miners in target ASM areas.
