Karamoja Women In mining Development(KWIMD)

Karamoja Women in Mining Development (KWIMD) Project was a two-year project funded by Bread for the World from 2014-2016. The project targeted majorly women Artisanal and Small-Scale miners in the Sub-Counties of Rupa and Tapac Sub-Counties in Moroto District, Karamoja Sub-region.

Its main aim was capacitating Women Artisanal Miners to engage in profitable, responsible mining and extended business activities aimed at reducing poverty.

Reaching the goal through increased incomes and socio-economic benefits for women miners from Artisanal & Small scale Mining of gold, limestone and marble in target areas; Increased number and effectiveness of Women ASM organizations; Transfer skills and know-how to women artisanal miners in support of better performing and safer operations, environmentally responsible and appropriate mining practices.Reduced environmental degradation and number of occupational accidents and injuries among the women miners in target ASM areas.
